Setting Environment Variables In Windows

For Emacs

Emacs requires a couple of environment variables to help it work properly. Emacs likes to have HOME DISPLAY PATH set.

To set these in Windows, do this:

HOME
Start > Control Panel > System and Security > System > Advanced System Settings > Environment Variables > New

Variable name: HOME
Variable value: C:\Users\YourName\Documents

DISPLAY
Start > Control Panel > System and Security > System > Advanced System Settings > Environment Variables > New

Variable name: DISPLAY
Variable value: localhost:0

PATH
Start > Control Panel > System and Security > System > Advanced System Settings > Environment Variables > New

Variable name: PATH
Variable value: C:\Program Files\emacs-23.1\bin;

Click OK to save and close.

If the PATH variable is already set, add your path value at the beginning.
